A pillar of the traditional Dunedin Sound scene of the 80s, Sammy's was closed in 2017 after an inspection found it to be "dangerous". Under threat of demolition, it was purchased by the Dunedin City Council shortly after, and has remained derelict ever since - until it was infiltrated by an enterprising group of music fans and resurrected for one night only in 2022.
